  • Finding London Builders Online

The internet is an amazing thing. It has made products and services more accessible than ever before.

There is also a cost, as the internet is largely unregulated, it means anyone can be anyone online. While it's a great medium for advertising a business, it offers relatively few reassurances that the business is any good. Therefore, if you're looking for a London builder online, you have to be careful.

Finding them is the easy part, checking them out if harder. Most London builders aren't the most technologically savvy people in the world. Their bacon butties and copy of The Sun, is the culture your average builder needs. A few are waking up to the possibilities of the internet, and are now advertising online. But there are many more who are not.

Fortunately, there are still resources on the building trade that need no input or action from the builders themselves. If you're looking for a London builder , the internet is still a good place to start.

There are plenty of local resource sites that provide information on local business. This is often harvested from other resources and doesn't depend on the builder having a website or an online presence. These can be a good starting point as some of them have reviews too. Be aware though, that it isn't above certain unscrupulous marketers to put their own glowing reviews online that aren't even slightly true.

The key to finding a good London builder online is to cross check everything. Play detective. If you find a builder near you, cross check them against your local council website. Depending on where you live, they often have "preferred tradesmen" pages, where local people recommend good builders or trades. Experience is the best recommendation and if they did good for a few people, they may do the same for you.

You can also enter the builders name into a search engine and see what comes up. Often it will be these local entries, but occasionally you'll see forum entries and other information that a standard search wouldn't find. Check any likely candidates and read what people have said. Take it all with a pinch of salt, as people can say anything about anyone, but allow it to build a picture in your mind.

Use the internet to widen your search if you can't find anyone in your area. London is a big place, and many firms won't mind travelling a bit to get the work, especially in a difficult economic climate. Even if builders have still yet to grasp the importance of the internet in marketing their business, other people have done it for them.

Finding a London builder online is easier than you might think. However, the internet doesn't replace gut feeling. Once you have selected a builder or three, nothing replaces the need to see them in the flesh, to look into their eyes, and to get that gut feeling. They won't quote over the internet anyway, so you're going to need to meet them at some point.
